Open Practice Solutions Data Breach Notification

Open Practice Solutions (OPS) has notified an individual that a billing portal error may have exposed some of their information to another OPS customer. According to the letter, the company deployed a software update on the morning of June 26, 2025, and that update contained a misconfiguration in the billing portal. Because of this accidental disclosure, another OPS customer may have been able to view some billing-related information belonging to the recipient for approximately five hours before the issue was corrected. OPS says it has no evidence that the information was actually viewed and is not aware of any attempted misuse, but it is notifying affected individuals out of caution.

This letter appears to have been sent to a single named patient rather than describing a broad population of affected customers, and the source filing does not include an aggregate number of people affected. If you received this letter, it means OPS identified your billing summary as one that may have been visible during the five-hour window.

What information was exposed?
  • First and last name
  • Provider name
  • Date of service
  • Service provided

The letter specifically states that your address, phone number, Social Security number, financial account information, and health insurance information were not viewable and were not involved in this error.

What should you do now?
  • Keep a copy of this notification letter for your records in case you need to reference it later.
  • Watch for any unexpected mail, calls, or bills referencing medical providers or services you don’t recognize, since provider names and service details were involved.
  • Be cautious of phishing emails or calls that reference your provider or appointment details, since scammers sometimes use small pieces of real information to appear legitimate.
  • Even though Social Security numbers and financial data were not involved here, it’s still reasonable to consider signing up for a service like Aura or LifeLock, which can alert you if your information appears elsewhere.
  • Review any billing statements from your healthcare providers over the next few months for unfamiliar charges or services.
  • Contact OPS directly if you have questions about what specifically was visible about your account.

If you have questions, Open Practice Solutions can be reached at 877-396-3218, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
