SogoTrade Data Breach Notice

SogoTrade, Inc. has notified customers that a phishing email containing malicious software allowed an unauthorized party to compromise four of the company’s email accounts. According to the notification, the compromise appears to have started on or about May 8, 2024 and ended around May 22, 2024, but SogoTrade says it did not learn of the incident until March 18, 2025, following a review by an outside forensic firm. This falls under what’s generally described as a phishing attack, where an attacker tricks someone into opening a malicious email or attachment to gain access to internal systems.

The letter is addressed to individuals whose personal information was contained in the affected email accounts. SogoTrade has not stated a total number of people affected in the portion of the notice provided.

What information was exposed?
  • First and last name
  • Financial account number
  • Social Security Number
  • Tax identification number

SogoTrade is offering one year of free identity monitoring services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, which includes alerts when changes occur on your credit file and access to fraud assistance specialists. To enroll, log on to https://bfs.cyberscout.com/activate and enter the unique code provided in your letter. You must enroll within 90 days from the date of the letter (April 28, 2025).

What should you do now?
  • Enroll in the free identity monitoring offered by SogoTrade before the 90-day deadline, using the unique code in your letter.
  • Because your Social Security number and financial account number may have been exposed, consider placing a fraud alert or a full credit freeze with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
  • Review your bank and brokerage account statements closely for any transactions you don’t recognize.
  • Watch for unexpected tax-related notices, since a tax identification number was involved, and consider filing your taxes early to reduce the risk of refund fraud.
  • Be cautious of follow-up emails or calls claiming to be from SogoTrade or Cyberscout asking you to confirm personal details — verify contact information independently before responding.
  • For ongoing peace of mind, consider signing up for a service like Aura or LifeLock, which can alert you if your information appears elsewhere.

If you have questions, SogoTrade can be reached at 1-833-998-6193, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
