Monterey Mushrooms, LLC has notified individuals that an unauthorized actor gained access to its computer network and viewed files stored on company servers between August 2, 2025 and August 7, 2025. This was a hacking or system intrusion, not something caused by an employee mistake or a lost device. After discovering the activity, the company said it secured its systems, launched an investigation, and contacted law enforcement. On August 30, 2025, the company determined which files were affected and what information they contained.
The letter was sent to people whose information was found in the accessed files. Not everyone had the same data exposed — the letter notes that driver’s license and passport numbers were involved only in certain limited circumstances, while names and Social Security numbers appear to apply more broadly to those notified. The company has not stated a total number of individuals affected in the portion of the letter provided.

Monterey Mushrooms is offering affected individuals a complimentary 12-month membership in Epiq’s Privacy Solutions ID, which includes three-bureau credit monitoring, SSN monitoring, dark web monitoring, identity restoration support, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance. What should you do now?
- Enroll in the free Privacy Solutions ID membership before the deadline listed in your letter — it includes credit monitoring, SSN monitoring, and identity theft insurance at no cost to you.
- Because your Social Security number was involved, place a fraud alert or a full security freeze on your credit files with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion; a freeze is free and makes it harder for anyone to open new accounts in your name.
- If your driver’s license or passport number was exposed, contact the issuing agency (your state DMV or the State Department) to ask about monitoring or reissuance options.
- Review your bank and credit card statements regularly for charges you don’t recognize, and report anything suspicious to your financial institution immediately.
- Order your free annual credit reports at annualcreditreport.com and check them for accounts you didn’t open.
- Consider signing up for a service like Aura or LifeLock, which can alert you if your information appears elsewhere, such as on the dark web.
- If you notice signs of identity theft, file a report with the FTC at identitytheft.gov and with your local police department, and keep a copy of the report for your records.
