El Dorado Irrigation District (EID) is notifying customers about a data security incident that occurred not on its own systems, but at Nationwide Recovery Services (NRS), a third-party vendor EID uses. This was a third-party vendor breach: NRS discovered suspicious activity on its network in July 2024, and its investigation determined that an unauthorized party accessed the NRS network between July 5, 2024 and July 11, 2024, resulting in the acquisition of certain data NRS maintained. EID states clearly that its own systems were not touched in any way — the exposure happened entirely within NRS’s environment. EID says it did not learn that specific individuals’ information may have been affected until an update from NRS on April 23, 2025, and worked to send notices as soon as possible afterward.
This notice was sent to individuals associated with EID whose information NRS held and whose data may have been included in the unauthorized access. The letter does not state a total number of people affected.

EID has arranged complimentary online credit monitoring and identity protection services through IDX. To enroll, visit https://app.idx.us/account-creation/protect and use the Enrollment Code included at the top of your letter. The deadline to enroll is August 28, 2025.
What should you do now?
- Enroll in the free IDX credit monitoring and identity protection service before the August 28, 2025 deadline, and make sure to activate the monitoring once enrolled — it does not work automatically.
- Because your Social Security number and date of birth were involved, consider placing a fraud alert or a full credit freeze with all three credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion), which is free and prevents new accounts from being opened in your name without extra verification.
- Request your free annual credit reports at www.annualcreditreport.com and review them closely for accounts or inquiries you don’t recognize.
- Watch your bank and credit card statements, and any insurance or benefits paperwork, for unfamiliar activity, and report anything suspicious to the relevant institution right away.
- For ongoing peace of mind, consider signing up for a service like Aura or LifeLock, which can alert you if your information appears elsewhere, such as on the dark web.
- If you notice signs of identity theft, file a report with local law enforcement and the FTC at www.identitytheft.gov, and keep copies for your records — this documentation is often needed to dispute fraudulent accounts.
