Child Care Resource Center sent out a data breach notification letter after an incident that the organization says it identified in connection with dates of October 4, 2016 and October 15, 2025. The copy of the letter available to us doesn’t spell out exactly how the incident happened, so the method behind it is currently unknown. What the letter does make clear is that it includes a section specifically addressing medical information, telling recipients that the company has ‘no evidence that your medical information involved in this incident was or will be used for any unintended purposes,’ which indicates medical information was part of what was involved.
The letter is written to individuals connected to Child Care Resource Center, but the version of the notice we reviewed does not include a specific total count of how many people were affected. Child Care Resource Center is offering complimentary access to Experian IdentityWorks, which includes credit monitoring, identity restoration assistance, and identity theft insurance. What should you do now?
- Locate your original letter and look for your personal Experian IdentityWorks activation code and enrollment deadline, since these are unique to each recipient and were not included in the version we reviewed.
- Enroll in the free credit monitoring and identity restoration services offered, and consider signing up for a service like Aura or LifeLock, which can alert you if your information appears elsewhere.
- Place a fraud alert with one of the three credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion) — once one bureau is notified, it will alert the other two.
- Consider placing a security freeze on your credit file with all three bureaus if you want the strongest protection against new accounts being opened in your name.
- Request your free annual credit reports at annualcreditreport.com and review them for accounts or inquiries you don’t recognize.
- Review any ‘explanation of benefits’ statements from your health insurer closely, and follow up with your provider or insurer about any services or charges you don’t recognize, since medical information was involved in this incident.
- Ask your insurance company for a year-to-date report of services billed under your name so you can catch any unfamiliar claims.
