## Why We Built This
When a company experiences a data breach, it often has to notify a state Attorney General and the people affected. These filings are public record, but they’re scattered, written in legal language, and easy to miss — until you personally receive a notification letter and don’t know what it means.
BreachLetter reads these public filings so you don’t have to. For each reported breach, we cover what happened, what type of information was exposed, and practical next steps you can take to protect yourself.
## Our Sources
Our primary source is the California Attorney General’s Data Breach Notifications database, a public record of breach notices filed under California law. We are expanding coverage to additional states over time. Every article links back to the original public filing.
